....one exercise at a time!
We all love to give our patients exercises as they do seem to be a good idea (1) . Most commonly we will give a demo to the patient and coach the patient how to do the exercises in the treatment room. It's pretty common to then give patients a sheet of exercises to do.
But do they do them? Often the answer is no (2) !
Here is a suggestion: after we have coached the patient how to do the exercise, we tell them that we'll send them a video of the exercise. We get the patient to write out their email address and sign consent for us to send them emails. They can unsubscribe at any time, of course.
We then send the patient an email with a link to the specific exercise that we want them to do at home. We can then send them further exercises that we feel are appropriate, and send them occasional emails with information about how to improve their health.
The exercise that I am coaching in this video is from a set of exercise cards produced by workoutlabs.com. You can also get them on Amazon. I think they are a great resource for all practitioners! Workoutlabs.com also has an online training platform with exercises that a practitioner can prescribe. It costs, of course, but could be a good online resource for a clinic. Just a thought!
